Le Mouton Qui Rit was established in 2008 and is situated in the Haute-Saône at 350 km east of Paris and 740 km from London. Haute-Saône is a quiet, wooded region with many characteristic
villages. It is ideal for hiking, and for touring by bicycle, motorcycle or car.
The owners have preserved the character of the building, which dates back to 1854, and have turned their home into a beautiful bed-and-breakfast
farm, with all modern conveniences.
The Dutch owners speak English, German, French and Dutch.
Rooms
There are 5 large two-person bedrooms, all with their own shower and toilet.

Bikes can be parked in the garage. Bikers and cyclists can dry their wet clothing in a special area.
If you wish, you can have dinner at our table d'hôtes, at € 17.= (ca BP 15.=). Dinner is usually at 7 p.m. We use local produce whenever possible. Please book your dinner as early as possible.

Kitchen and lounge area.
In the kitchen and lounge area, two large tables will seat 6 persons each.
There is also a modest seating arrangement, with a stereo-installation, and a modest reading library. You can consult staff maps of your immediate surroundings, and information on what to see and what to do in the region.
Internet PC and Wifi are at your disposal. There is no television.
Garden and swimming pool
In the sunny garden there is a swimming pool (open all summer), a terrace, and a bbq.
Special facilities
In a separate area you have at your disposal a washing-machine, drying lines, and ironing facilities.
Bycicles and motors can be parked in the garage. Bikers and cyclists can dry their wet clothing in a designated area.
Our guests can use our walk-in ceramics workshop. Here you can spend a morning or afternoon and throw pots, or do some hand forming or sculpting. For more details, see below under Pottery Workshop.

Animals cannot be allowed in the rooms. We have separate facilities for our friends.

Apartment

The apartment has a kitchen (including fridge, microwave and oven), one bedroom for 4 persons (with toilet and shower), and a suite for 2 persons. Reservations
Make your reservations by e-mail. Please add a security deposit € 150.= per week of renting. To make your reservation definitive, please deposit 30% of the rent directly after your booking.
At least one month before the start of your stay, you are required to pay the balance on your account.
Details and rules
The package is based on self-service.
You buy your own food and prepare your own meals in the apartment's kitchen.
Before departure you will take the linen off the beds and clean the apartment
If you have moved furniture, please put it back to its original position.
At the end of the week we will go through the apartment together to see if there is any damage, and if extra cleaning is needed. We can then make up the final bill and the security deposit can be settled.
You may prefer to have the apartment cleaned by us at € 75.=
For the winter period there is a surcharge for heating of €75.=

Gîte
If you decide to celebrate your holidays with a larger group, you may rent the entire complex as a gîte. We offer very attractive rates.
- Description
The gîte has 5 spacious bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and shower. A large kitchen (with fridge, oven and microwave), a dining room, a garden with a swimming pool and a terrace with a bbq installation will be at your disposal. See above for more details, or click at the photo album link.
Extra sleeping places can be made available against a surcharge of 12€ pppn.

Pottery workshop
The host of Le Mouton Qui Rit is also a enthousiastic potter and opens his workshop to his guests. The principle is self-sufficiency, but some limited guidance can be provided. You can throw, model, and handform or sculpt (a limited sculpturing toolset is available). You may bring your own tools, clays or glazes, of course. We are open to many possibilities.
For a morning or afternoon we charge € 15,-= , which will include use of tools, materials, clay, but exclude stone.
The following equipment is available: 2 throwing-wheels, tools, plate walse, pug machine, clay, and a small electrical kiln. A new larger kiln will arrive in March this year.
Glazing after consultation.
Shipping to your home addres is at your own expense.There are plans to construct a wood-fired kiln.
A pitfire will be fired, if there is enough material or demand each friday of saturday niight. It is always great to see the pots firing in a pitfire and it is nice to have a glass of wine and small talk during the process. Or to help keeping the fire going. Below you 'll see some examples of or guests.
Raku firing is an option.

If you wish, you can have dinner at our table d'hôtes.
Your host is your cook!
We use when possible local produce and cook (local) french dishes as well as international dishes. Sometimes dishes from the renaissance or later.
Dinner consists of 3 courses and includes a fine bottle of French wine per two diners.We ask you kindly to make reservations in advance.

Note: Please tell us in advance what you do like, or do not like. Are there members of your party with an allergy (milk, gluten, chocolate)? If you are a vegetarian, we will adjust the menu whenever possible.

The host is also an enthousiastic (tour) biker. Taking his experience as our starting point, we have developed a touring package.
There are 5 touring days. With tours laid out in a clover-leaf with Le Mouton Qui Rit as the hub. The host will guide you. Midweek there is is a free tour by yourselves, or you can just take it easy on the terrace, near the swimming pool. We will be closing the week with a BBQ. This is an all-in price except for petrol, entry fees and consumptions during trips or at the B&B. Click on the button below for details.
Individual bookings are of course possible, and when the host has any time he will be happy to join you for a trip.

Our B&B is in the French Comté region, in the north of the Haute-Saône.
It is ca. 350 km east of Paris and approximately 740 km from London. Via the tunnel it takes about 8 hours driving. Toll road fees to Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras will cost you around € 40.=
Make reservations for the tunnel's car train well in advance!
If you do not plan to make the journey in one stretch, we advise you to stay away from the motorways, and to make your trip an adventure through the French country-side. We can advise you on B&B's half-way.
Navigating
In your navigator select Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras (including dashes).
Choose number 15 rue Fontenois
Sometimes there are different names for the same street in the list.
Some of the names found so far:
- Route Fontenois (la ville)
- Chemin de Fontenois
- Rue Fontenois la ville
For legacy systems, you will sometimes need to select another map of the country-side manually, before you can find the street.
Select the map for France.
Not in a hurry? Get off the highways! Take the routes nationales (RN) by entering "avoid toll roads". This takes a few extra hours of driving, but you will love it.
When you enter the village, opposite the church, turn into "Grande Rue", direction Fontenois la Ville. At the corner you will see some nameplates, ours is there too!
Continue driving. After 200 meters you encounter our landmark cityhall.
- The name of the road changes into rue Fontenois after you pass our city hall. Continue driving.
- Le Mouton Qui Rit is number 15, about 250 metres past the mairie at your lefthand side.

- With the software from "Tyre" which is free down-loadable you can plan routes in a very simple way. Just point and click. We have placed an example on our tour page.
- On the internet there are a great many different route planners. Usually they publish the most recent stationary radar positions as a bonus.
- Tip for motorcyclists: the radar posts are turned around sometimes, so they can still take a picture from your (motor)license plate from behind.
